Day Zero: Alpha is the ninth episode of the second season of the TV series Day Zero. The series is based on the aftermath of an apocalypse. The apocalypse befalls when the technology advances beyond the capacity of human kind and the peace in the world is disturbed by a few megalomaniacs who develop weapons without complying with the international peace treaties. Due to the breakout of the WWIV, many fall victim to nuclear exposure and are infected. The infected feed on the rest of the population and there are some others who fall partially victim to the war. The rest of the uninfected people try to hide from the monstrous infected beasts who acquire superhuman powers as a result of the infection.

In the category of hybrids there are some who try to fight off the instincts that kick in due to the infection. In this episode we such a determined control of instinctual beastly behavior. The settings chosen for this genre are very appropriate and reflect the seriousness of the narration. The cinematography color is muted to set the visual tone of the apocalypse in the minds of the audience.

The inclusion of some technological elements support the clever plot. The total body restructuring of a woman who was involved in a car accident and had been burned beyond hope is very thoughtful.

The sound department has done a good job in producing such a genre appropriate background score.  Day Zero: Alpha takes some time to get emotionally involved with in the beginning, but as the story unfolds it makes for binge-worthy TV.
