Forgiveness: The Secret of Peace is a one of kind documentary feature film that is created by siblings Patrick Long and Katsey Long. The film tackles the Genocide in Rwanda, Central Africa that happened way back 1994. The incident shows the horror that killed almost 45,000 people and brought terror in the land. People killing each other, neighbor became perpetrator to another; the Genocide History of Rwanda will be forever in the books of their citizens.

As the film keeps rolling, being a viewer, we cannot argue that tears will keep falling from the start till the end. Different emotions will be felt by people who will watch the documentary film. The statement from the survivors and perpetrator will let you realize that there is a different situation that we cannot imagine that happened in some parts of the world. With all the terror that occurred to Rwanda and its people, one thing that kept them on their feet is the eagerness to forgive.

Sister Donata, the foundress of Missionaries of Peace of Christ the King once stated that, ‘forgiveness is letting the people who injured you to be free; from it you will also be free’. This can be seen during the interview with some of the survivors of the genocide. The survivors from the start also had a hard time in forgiving the perpetrator that causes pain to them and their family. But as the story goes by, Fr. Ubald, a priest and also a victim of the genocide formulated a program that can bring reconciliation among the victims and their perpetrators. Fr. Ubald’s formulation of the Mushaka Program is the one that they used so that survivors and perpetrators can reconcile and forgive each other.

It is evident in the film that both sides are in pain about their past history, but with the help of the program, they forgave each other, reconciled and after that they felt the healing from within. The survivors and perpetrators felt pure joy because they had been freed from the darkness that shadows their heart from the horror of the past.

The documentary film portrays not just the past life situation of the people of Rwanda, it is also applicable to all the citizens of humanity in all parts of the world. Each day and time, there are victims and perpetrators that are needed to undergo forgiveness, reconciliation and healing. Family, friends, communities should be aware that there things that are needed to be settled even though it is just in a small way. We cannot let hatred conquer out hearts and be in the darkness for a long time. Small misunderstanding must be settled right away. We cannot let them grow into a bigger problem for most of the time as we wait longer to forgive the weight of the burn is becoming much heavier each minute.

I must say that the documentary film deserves to be honored and it is recommended with full thumbs up to be watched by all. We cannot let this one of a kind film just to pass our eyes for it brings a lot of life’s lesson that we can learn from.
