Mother’s Milk
Mother’s Milk is a short film telling us about a man’s dark thoughts. It takes us to the notions of a man who is facing a difficult relationship in his real life and is imagining an ideal one inside his mind.
We are shown of an adult man named Victor who is always under pressure to do better because his mother is not proud of who he has become. Every now and then, the real mother would nag at him at his actions. He is not even doing anything wrong but his mother does not stop the nagging. The only one he has is his imaginary mother who is always there for him and who always understands him. She is the one who is on his side when he needs someone to talk to. His imaginary mother loves to take care of him and attend to his needs. Whenever his real mother starts nagging at him, his imaginary mother always got his back. To him, his imaginary mother is the best person in the world. But how will he be able to put up with his real mother when it is easier to live with just his imaginary mother?
Within a short time, this film is able to stir up mixed emotions. At first, you might get confused who are those two women who seems to be arguing but are not actually looking at each other’s face. Then, you will feel pity towards the man who seems to be constantly torn between two women who are always dictating him two conflicting things about what he should do or how he should act. The scenes showing the Victor’s confusion between his “two” mothers were actually comedic. It was strange but at the same time funny. As you get to slowly understand the film, you will start to feel angry with the real-life mother as she is clearly being unreasonable with how she treats her son.
The ending is actually a shocker. It was so disturbing how the lead character actually turned out to be a creep.
This film’s style used in the screenplay was ingenious. It has the right mix of mystery, satire, and scare. However disturbing, you just can’t help but be impressed with the writer’s and the director’s imaginative concept for the film’s plot. The viewers’ interest will surely be captured until towards the end of the film with the way all of the scenes have played out.
Apparently, the musical score in the film is perfectly in sync with the goals of the movie. Even the other small details in the film, like Victor’s fascination with tofu and tattoos are great additions to the overall screenplay. These small details make the whole film more weird but in an awesome way.
It is evident that the creators of the film did their best for this. They were able to give the audience a short film that is distinctive. The camera angles are well-shot. The editing was clearly smooth. The overall cinematography is incredible.
Great article, I really had a great time reading it. Your writing style is extremely engaging and your insights are highly insightful. Keep up the good work!
