God sent one of his Angels in “Angel in a Foxhole”
Many believe in the saying that “All dogs go to heaven” but this movie enlightens me to a much better appreciation that “All dogs are heaven sent”. Once you meet Smoky in this film, you’ll feel the same way.”Angel In The Foxhole” is the most accurate title for this short film. It was the perfect place and just the right timing when God sent down one of his angels in the perfect disguise as man’s best friend. You’ll be amazed as I was, as Corporal William A. Wynne recollects his memory of the Angel from the Foxhole that touched his life and the lives of many during World War II. Who would have thought that a tiny Yorkshire Terrier can make such an immense impact on one of the world’s darkest period? The period where the toughest of the tough are put to the test physically, mentally and emotionally. You may have watched or read dozens of veteran stories, but trust me on this there isn’t a story like Corporal William A. Wynne and his Yorkshire Terrier, Smoky.
A film about love, friendship, brotherhood, kindness and more. The award-winning director Dean Love who co-wrote and produced this movie with Dave Tabar clearly shows their appreciation to war veterans and of course to the very lovable furry Yorkshire Terrier in their excellent way of storytelling. They have depicted Corporal William A. Wynne’s self-published book “Yorkie Doodle Dandy” in a very pleasing and entertaining film that anyone will surely enjoy. It was like I was watching the lighter side of the war. They have captured a part of history that the rest of the world has to see. I have witnessed healings that were not acknowledged and miracles that weren’t glorified, however, will forever be in the hearts of who saw and were touched by Smoky.
Aside from the film’s inspiring story, one of the outstanding factors in this short film is how they have showcased the incredible power that dogs have and the connection that they can build between people. From unexpected friendships to a solid brotherhood care and understanding to kindness and compassion they showed me how these dogs transmit positivity to someone who is unable to communicate or disclose sadness or emotional stress. The psychological healing from a dog’s love and tenderness help many of our soldiers that are in need to cope with trauma and/or depression. Dogs like Smoky are miracle workers they save lives from war zones, communities, health facilities, or maybe just around the corner and they don’t even know. That is why I am honored for the opportunity to me to review this film. This is a wonderful film dedicated to the brave men and women who served during the war and of course the furry private Smoky who didn’t think twice in providing her service in the field and in the arms of her fellow servicemen. If you want a lovely film to watch on veteran’s day, be sure to catch this wonderful film from the heart.
