“Hunger” made me crave more from these filmmakers
What do you get when timeless Japan meets the creativity and innovation of Swiss directors Rob Schneider and Michel Wild? One word, Sensational!!!
They swept me off my feet with their one of a kind short film “Hunger” I was astounded by the films’ unconventional plot that brought all the right ingredients to captivate its audience, but this film will also have you craving for some authentic Japanese sushi. Yes, you better have those taste buds ready because you’re about to get served with the ultimate dish you’ll ever taste with just with the right amount of thrill, horror, mystery, and fantasy. I am pretty sure that those cravings will be more than satisfied with this film.
If you’re ready, let’s venture into the creative world that directors Michel Wild and Rob Schneider built. A world where a man meets a woman, a note, sushi, and more sushi.
I bet you are starving for more scoops about “Hunger” I hate to break it to you my friends, but I wouldn’t be giving spoilers. However, I bet you that you’ll want to see it more after reading this review.
Let’s begin with the very crafty innovation method of how its creators Rob Schneider and Michel Wild shot this film. The whole film was incredibly shot using a smartphone. Talk bout using the tools you have on hand! What makes this film stand out is the bona fide Japanese feel that it was able to transmit in every scene. I was surprised to know that the country it was shot in was Switzerland! The art direction was on point setting the tone for the incredible Japanese ambiance. It clearly showed the heart of Rob Schneider and Michel Wild for Japan. Using their vision, inventiveness, and resourcefulness, they transformed a child’s playroom into a Japanese apartment. Amazing huh? Well, wait ‘til you see the fruits of this film.
It is always lovely to see a film where a man does everything to pursue a woman, that is why after watching this film, it made me realize that the quote saying “The way to a man’s heart is through his stomach” is an overstatement, it should be vice versa. And I believe many would agree that most women are pretty dangerous/ferocious when they are hungry and mutate back into an angel when they are full. I couldn’t blame the Japanese sushi chef in this story as he becomes addicted to the smile of the mysterious woman who came knocking on his door on a rainy evening with a note that will forever change the course of his life. But the question is, will he satisfy her appetite and make her stay for more and in turn supply him with that addicting smile?
Having the chance to write a review about this film was an absolute delight. The opportunity of witnessing an epic tale unfold is an incredible experience. Everything about this film is unquestionably remarkable. It had me hooked from the begging and I am anticipating a backstory and a sequel. I would watch it over and over again. Undoubtedly the perfect film to share with family and friends, and of course that one person who has an awesome smile once he or she grabs a bite of some sushi.
