Watch out for “Criminals”

Spread the love

Caught up with murder, cover-up, and illegal drugs, the movie “Criminals” exemplifies who is the better human at the end of the day. To be honest I thought that this movie is just another Breaking Bad inspired film but the director Casey William Walker proved me wrong. Walker gave me a storyline with more real characters and a movie that has a moral compass that many can learn from.

Placed in a situation that already implicates one in a series of crime, who would turn out to be the one with better discernment? Is it Charlie the junkie drug dealer? Derrick, a father and a good provider? Or Joshy, Derrick’s good for nothing weed addicted son? I am sensing that each of you lovely readers are picking the most probable candidate for this story but I won’t burst your bubble just yet.  Let’s step into the shoes of each of the characters though and venture a little more in their world to find out who’s the real criminal.

The movie begins with Charlie doing his usual routine getting high while waiting for his customers. He hears a knock on one of his sliding doors. He is very hesitant to open it because the person knocking wouldn’t say the secret password. Coupled with his  paranoia that it is the cops the bombarding of knocks continue so he peeps through the blinds and was stunned that it was Derrick.

Charlie let the very agitated Derrick inside his house. To his surprise Derrick was carrying a gun. Fearing that Derrick had found out that he has been ripping off some of his stash Charlie confessed of his dishonesty. Charlie’s confession opened the door to Derrick’s more shocking revelation of murder.

Charlie is the only criminal that Derrick knows. He thinks that no one would suspect that he is at Charlie’s place and chooses to lay low and keep a low profile lay low his profile. Held hostage at his own home, Charlie was convinced to help Derrick dispose of some evidence linking him to the murder. Unfortunately, one of Charlie’s frequent customers came knocking on the door. It’s Joshy, Derrick’s junkie son. Joshy’s presence heated up the scene with more revelations, the unexpected death of their loved one, the person his father murdered, the reason why his father committed the murder and who Derrick really is. It sounds like a lot… and it really is. Nice!

I’ve got to hand it to director Casey William Walker because he gave me a very unexpected ending. The family drama between a parent and his child is something that everyone can relate too. Putting the murder and the drugs aside, the film “Criminals” relefts life very well. Human nature was on display highlighting how we put our walls up with our pride and stubbornness hindering communication between two people that used to love each other. That at times being the parent we think we always know what is the right thing to do for our children, but is it right for all the time? Joshy is running away from reality and turning to drugs while his father Derrick murdered someone to run away from the truth of who he really is.

“Criminals” is definitely a film to watch out for due to its top quality cinematic, fantastic actors, and extraordinary story. There’s nothing more I could ask for. The hard work of director Casey William Walker together with the cast and crew certainly paid off with the exceptional delivery of this film. Cheers and Congratulations to all!
