MUMA
Have you ever been in a situation where you find it harder to talk or open up to someone you have known your whole life than a stranger in a park? Often communication is barred due to fear of rejection and unfavorable responses, as well as emotions we stacked up inside, which later on builds a wall disabling the link to communicate. And often, the struggle and the disconnect in communication begins inside the home, within the family. Where conversations become uttered lines answered by an assumed response losing the means to bridge thoughts, which triggers a gap that slowly widens until it is a mile away. With this experience, many of us chose to keep things to themselves, filling up like a time-bomb ready to explode as soon as something hits the trigger. Today’s focus film is by director Rosco Guerrero and written by Brady Dowad, their film had me experienced an in-depth encounter with the character who will forever be judged of his transgressions, the character we all know as the antagonist or the villain of the story. But how much do we know of the so-called villain? Is he the real enemy? Or is he also a victim of circumstance caught up in a disruptive situation unable to control the moment? Get a chance to know one of the so-called villain, up close and a bit personal in the intense short drama “Mamu”.
The story of “Mamu” was nowhere I have predicted. And the moment it started rolling, it caught me off guard. It played with my mind and my emotion. The story is stirring with intrigue and raw emotions that had my emotions stirred as well. I was at the edge of my seat on the whole duration of it playing as if the scene is pulling me in, and kindling my mind to know more about the main character. If you are wondering what is the movie is all about, well, unfortunately, I cannot say much, for it is short and given how excellent it is made, I wouldn’t want to spoil the story. However, I am going to leave you guys with a quote, that for me, links the focus message of the story, and I hope it opens a small light about the film. Here it goes;
“Sometimes you just need to talk about something – not to get sympathy or help, but just to kill its power by allowing the truth of things to hit the air.”
The story of “Mamu” was created by minds of twistedly pure genius, and I wholeheartedly meant that as compliment and admiration to its creators, director Rosco Guerrero, writer/actor Brady Dowad, and producer Trey Terpeluk. I very much appreciate the risk they took by trying to humanize the villain, a risk many will not take. Also, high regard on the spontaneity of the scene and Brady Dowad’s performance as the lead character Shea. It was an exceptional execution from the front and back of the camera, award-winning mastery in filmmaking was evidently delivered in as little as six minutes. I am pretty sure I’ll be seeing and hearing more about this film and its distinction. Congratulations on this one of a kind masterpiece!
