Teamwork Triumphs at the ‘Networking Film Challenge’
In the vibrant landscape of Utah’s filmmaking community, a new and exciting event is emerging – the Networking Film Challenge. Hosted by the Utah International Film Festival, this event is set to showcase the collaborative spirit within the local cinema scene.
Teams are invited to register starting today through December 31st. Film must be completed and uploaded to FilmFreeway by Feb 1st.
Warren Workman, the founder of the UIFF and seasoned filmmaker himself, shares valuable insights into the motivation behind the Networking Film Challenge. He observes, “Most filmmakers take on many roles in a film as they are uncomfortable asking others to work for less money or free. Although this helps the filmmaker understand the various positions of a film production, it can hinder their ability to focus all their energy on doing one job perfectly.”
In his view, “Filmmaking is a team sport,” emphasizing the importance of collaboration in the creative process. He believes that when teams come together, relying on each other’s strengths, the final product is elevated to new heights.
The challenge itself encourages participants to embrace collaboration by limiting one person per production role. No hybrids allowed – no writer/director or producer/editor combos.
Come February 15th, Maven Cinemas will transform into a hub of creativity and camaraderie with films from all over the world as well as the Networking Film Challenge. The audience will have the power to vote for the best work, both on and off the screen. From Gaffers to Grips, Catering to Production Assistants, every role in the filmmaking process gets its moment in the spotlight.
Participation in the Networking Film Challenge comes with a team entry fee of $50. The team lead (the person who registers the team on FilmFreeway) receives a complimentary ticket to the screening. For individual enthusiasts, a ticket is available for $10, not only providing access to the cinematic showcase but also a chance to influence the selection of winners.
