In a recent interview with filmmaker Micah Bode, he shared insights into the making of his latest project, “HONEY,” a film that delves into the struggles of identity and the transformative power of self-realization.

Bode revealed that the inspiration behind “HONEY” stemmed from a challenging period in his life. Despite not knowing precisely how or why he needed to tell this particular story, Bode expressed gratitude for taking that creative leap.

When asked about his favorite part of production, Bode recounted a unique and daring experience. He described buying an old, heavy TV, placing it in the back of a friend’s truck, and filming as they drove around. The thrilling yet risky endeavor resulted in captivating shots, showcasing the filmmaker’s commitment to unconventional creativity.

“It was so scary as I just had to watch it sway back and form while it rest on an old Ikea table from my apartment” said Bode. “Although it could have gone seriously bad and flown off and destroyed the car behind us, it didn’t, and the shots turned out so cool.”

However, filmmaking is not without its challenges. Bode discussed the most difficult part of production was the uncertainty he faced. Admitting that he didn’t have a clear vision initially, yet he emphasized the joy of watching the story unfold organically and evolving into something beyond his initial expectations.

Looking back Bode expressed satisfaction with the outcome and the cathartic release that comes with accepting a film as it is.

“Seeing it take on a mind of its own and turn into something completely different than I accepted it’s such a crazy feeling.”

Bode offered valuable advice for aspiring filmmakers as well. “Don’t wait to get into the production space. Start making stuff your own way, and start now.” He encouraged budding creators to take the initiative, emphasizing that waiting for permission or funding may hinder success.
