‘Hold You Down’ Transcends Personal Grief
Seeking to explore the universal theme of grief, ”Hold You Down” is an artistic endeavor originating from the heart-wrenching experience of Dov Igel, who was deeply affected by the unexpected passing of his mother. Desiring to convey this profound aspect of life through the medium of film, Dov reached out to director Jean, envisioning a project that would resonate on a human level.
Collaborating closely with director Jean, the duo crafted a storyline that would utilize dance and movement to convey the emotional depths of loss in a way that words often fall short. “While expressing my desire for the film to center around grief, I also made it clear that I didn’t want my personal story to be the focus,” shared Dov.
Dov’s favorite part of production rally came don to the intention of the project. “My favorite part was working out the conceptual idea behind the video, thinking about what we wanted to say and express both visually and musically to convey the feeling of loss and grief to the viewers” he revealed.
Making a music video is not cheap nor is it easy. “We worked with a very small budget, and the project was very DIY. It made us all work harder and be creative since we were very limited with the budget,” he acknowledged.
Despite the budget constraints, the music video unfolded organically, and Dov expressed no regrets. “The video happened just as it should, telling the story we wanted in a unique way that makes us all very proud of it,” he stated.
For those aspiring to enter the film space, Dov offered practical advice. “You need to be ready to work hard and be comfortable reaching out to people, using your connections, and utilizing your social skills. More than being organized, it requires creativity and last-minute adjustments,” he advised.
