We were able to chat with Dan McBride about his latest movie Out of Line which will be screening on Saturday January 7th at the Towne Hub in American Fork Utah as part of the Utah Film Festival.

Out of Line followed Ron and Cyan on their first date. To avoid any awkward silences he invites his friends along. It doesn’t help.

What was the inspiration to make Out of Line?

My film crew and I have been venturing into the feature film world, and we had a goal of writing some 1 location features and this is a result of that goal.

From idea to completion, how did Out of Line change?

Films seem to be living things until the final render. The script goes through many rewrites, the edit goes through many edits. It’s always changing.

What was the biggest challenge in getting Out of Line made?

Shooting outside in the summer during that heat wave of 107 degrees.

What do you think is the most important takeaway from your film?

Communication between departments is key to make sure everything is the best it can be.

If you could have a do over with Out of Line, is there anything that you would have done differently? If so, what would you change?

Delegated more.

What do you have in the works?

I’ve got my next feature in the works, currently raising funds with plans to shoot next spring, and also writing another feature film.
