Deep Dark
Mia and Patrick are a lovely couple! They would have been the “couple goals” who have found a way to settle down with a quiet life instead of a busy working life in the city. They are lucky enough to find each other and then to find a beautiful house near a lake. This short film is about a glimpse of their escapist life in a beautiful place with scenic views- these are what caught my attention in The Deep Dark. I appreciated all the camera shots in the entire movie. I loved the shot in the beginning where Patrick was arranging his fishing net and Mia was touching the water. Then, I loved the camera shot where the couple was kissing in the sunset. The angles were just absolutely perfect.
The panoramic shot where Patrick ran in the woods and the shot where he went to the lake looking for Mia were also stunning. It perfectly captured the serene and beautiful place that they were living in, but also not failing to portray that eerie and creepy feels to the audience. As those scenes unfold, you would already think that something scary is about to happen.
The actor and actress who played as Patrick and Mia, respectively, were also to be commended as they were able to show us all the varied emotions that the movie is trying to portray in a few minutes. One factor that really got me impressed is that the characters need not to say ‘I love you’ out loud. They just have amazing chemistry and are greatly expressive with their gestures. They really look good together.
The film is really beautifully shot and I would have loved to watch more of Patrick and Mia’s love story. The film’s cinematography is also very good. The movie made me fall in love, get scared with the water and feel sad with what happened to Patrick because the storyline is amazing and the musical score is so exceptional. The mysterious water creature that lurked in the river really piqued my curiosity. Plus, the background music makes me want to also hold my breath as if I’m underwater too. The overall musical score is perfect! The instrumental was so sweet in the ears in the scenes where the couple is happy. While in the scenes that the couple is in trouble, the music is like passing a nervous tremor. It sounds flawless to me.
Aside from the mysterious kind of thriller that this movie has depicted, I very much enjoyed the aesthetics in each scene. It’s like the movie is inspiring me to leave the hustle and bustle of the city life. The setting is so scenic and peaceful.
The screenplay is so nice and efficient in the given time. The plot and twist are thrilling enough. The editing is awesome. Cinematography is beautiful. Musical score is perfect. The cast has great chemistry. I really want to congratulate the creators of this film as this is an admirable production!
