Dulcinea
The film’s intro tells us about the legend of Don Quixote and the love of his life, Dulcinea. This story’s protagonist, named Conor, whose biggest dream was to go to Spain. He was so fixated with one of the most successful character in Spanish literature. Then we proceed to the start of Conor’s journey downhill.
Conor was even excited in the beginning. He just came back after a few months of being on tour as a band member. The first thing that he wants to do now that he is home is to propose to his long time girlfriend. So, when Chelsea rejected him by admitting that she was cheating on him, he felt so angry with her. He tries to make Chelsea talk about her cheating when, suddenly, his brother, Henry, knocked on the door. As the argument progressed, Henry and Chelsea revealed that they are moving in together. Conor was so furious. But what’s even more appalling is that Conor’s mother died 37 days ago.
Conor was so overwhelmed with everything he found out. A realization dawned on him- that he was never really there for those who matter in his life. He tries to make it up to his family by driving to his father, Fred. He tried to apologize, but Fred wasn’t having it anymore. He was so hurt when his wife died, but even more hurt when one of his sons wasn’t there for his wife. And as if that everything couldn’t get any worse, Conor lost his job. He was kicked out from the place that he was working as a janitor (his real work)- the reason why he was away from his loved ones for a few months. Then, Martha, Conor’s therapist, visited Conor in his place to see how he is doing as she clearly knows that he is a mess and he might start hurting himself.
Martha brings Conor to her place to watch him as she was so worried. Conor left the place because he was feeling so lost and he just wanted to die. Martha did not want him to leave but Conor was so adamant. So, she just let him leave and gave him a strange ring saying that Conor can use it when he feels that he is going to break. He should wear it while lying in the ground and thinking about the places that he wanted to go to.
The first place that he goes to is the Sahara desert. He, then, goes to Las Vegas, Japan, Miami, Santa Monica, New York. Until he finally goes to Madrid, Spain, his dream destination since he was young. This is where he met Isabela. Isabela brings him around Madrid and even made him see the statues of Don Quixote and Sancho. They enjoyed a good time together.
The viewers will surely enjoy this movie, especially, those who are a travel enthusiast. All the places that Conor has been to are so lovely to see. The camera shots on those scenic views are awesome. The way that the story and the plot turned out is seriously impressive. It was crafted in a very beautiful and touching way. The screenplay is so amazing that almost all of the scenes are able to touch the hearts of the audience and the musical score is fantastic. The performance of each one of the cast is outstanding. I am so moved with Conor’s love for Isabela, his Dulcinea.
I am recommending this film, especially to those who still love even though they’ve been hurt, those who dream even though they failed and those who choose to live one more day even though it seems hopeless. This is really worth-watching! The creators of this film deserves applause!
