Everything is Fine
This whole COVID -19 pandemic has taken over our lives, the way we live, the way we think, and the way we act. We became a little bit neurotic about our surroundings and the people we encounter, and sometimes even of ourselves. Of course, who could blame us, right? We are fighting a deadly enemy that is invisible to the naked eye and can attack us at any moment we let our guards down. Face masks, disinfectants, social distancing, and self-isolation has been our story for this year, but quarantining alone is no fun. It gets the best of us mentally and emotionally. As they say, ‘No man is an island’ and for many of us, a quarantine buddy makes the solution for this pandemic confinement at the four corners of our houses. And today we are going to explore the new normal, as a couple decides to end their pandemic long-distance relationship and reunite to quarantine together in this short film by Mark St. Cyr and Aileen Kyoko titled “Everything Is Fine.”
“Everything is fine” is a crazy fun short film. It is like the mirror to our daily life, particularly to couples who decided to take the next step to get by the new norm and quarantined together. This movie showcased how pandemic anxiety has taken over many of us, on how we try to manage to live our lives but with continuous fear. The amazing factor about this film is the way it gave light to the situation. Its creators, Mark St. Cyr(Director) and Aileen Kyoko(Writer), who also played the part as the couple, understand the underlying concern that bothers many of us amidst this pandemic. The difficulty of trying to normalize life again, even with the ones we love the most, is a challenge. In the film, the story begins where the girlfriend (Aileen Kyoko) is waiting for her boyfriend (Mark St. Cyr) to arrive in their rented quarantine home. She anticipated his arrival with the stress of thinking about the virus. The moment that boyfriend arrived. Being the hypochondriac that she is, the girlfriend instated precautionary boundaries between them to make sure none of them contracted the virus. And for six days, they manage to keep themselves apart, six-feet away from each other, while trying to do normal things that couples do. And come the seventh day, they face the ultimate dilemma of contemplating between getting back to the old normal, or staying within the bounds of their new norm.
I super enjoyed watching this movie. It is so adorable and fun, but most of all, it has a warm touch to the heart, the kind of touch that many of us needed in these challenging times. Aileen Kyoko did an exceptional job writing the story and superbly portraying her part. She was very entertaining and natural. I loved watching her. And of course, Mark St. Cyr, this guy rocks! I have followed some of his awesome works like ”Below the Belt’ and his performance in the short film “The House Sitters” he simply keeps on getting better and better. From acting to directing, Mark St. Cyr is seriously one of the best Actor-Directors I have encountered in the festival. His versatility with acting and directing in different film genres from action, drama, suspense thriller, now romantic comedy is outright outstanding. So if you are in quarantine with your special someone or the whole family, this is the perfect film to watch and don’t forget to hold their hands and tell them “Everything is Fine” Wonderful movie indeed, make sure to catch its screening!
