Ghost Mask – SCAR

Ghost Mask- Scar is an absolutely remarkable movie. The concept was impeccable, the story was original and timely and the unpredictability was brilliant. The movie is about a woman from Japan searching for her sister who moved to Korea, her mission was to seek forgiveness for a mistake that was done in the past. There was love, drama, mystery, horror, and suspense thriller all together in this movie, something you would not expect at first. All these factors were added up in sync with the perfect sequencing of every scene. The depth and twist of the story are very riveting, it keeps the interest of the viewers until the very last scene.

The story of Ghost Mask- Scar is about jealousy, grudge, selfishness, betrayal, and unconventional perception of the love of two sisters. It started with the back story of the girls, which highlighted one of the root cause of the antagonist’s grudge against her sisters (yes sisters, because there was another half-sister).

The antagonist back story was deeply heart-rending, but the grudge that she had kept inside her heart created a monster that underlies in her revamped physical attributes. Because of life’s mysterious twist of fate, her sister Miyu, the lead character found her way to her sister but unknowingly it was her and confused her sister with the plastic surgeon who was her sister’s lover. Flashbacks of the story gave a strong foundation to the movie, it showed how love, betrayal, and jealousy can impact a person’s mental stability. The actors displayed caliber acting to represent their characters, there were depth and artistry in their acting, connection to the character and emotions was truly commendable. They showed realistic reactions to extremely grueling and also gruesome scene.

Overall the directors succeeded in producing a quality movie that is in line with the timely trending fashion of plastic surgery that is socially accepted in South Korea’s culture. They have presented a film with characters that are very relatable to today’s generation. They have also combined the culture and perception of Japanese and Korean films. Ghost Mark-Scar has the modern factor of Korea and it was spiced up by classical Japanese suspense thriller that was clearly displayed during the last few scenes where the antagonist went on a killing spree while chasing her sister. The scenery in every location was beautiful and relevant.

I was extremely impressed that the budget for this film is below $5,000 because the quality of this film can compete and surpass movies that are shown in the mainstream. The lighting, sounds, cinematography, editing, actors, and storyline were outstanding. The creativity and artistry that was incorporated into the genre of this film gave this movie an advantage of versatility for the different taste of the moviegoers.

I would definitely recommend this film, it is a movie to watch out for, the director and overall contributors of the film are also definitely to watch out for, for a movie that was excellently made with a very limited budget is a work of people that have passion and dedication to produce high caliber films.
