Give + Take is Hilarious

Be ready to laugh your heart out in this fantastic comedy film “Give + Take” which is loaded with hilarious classic comic moments and of course fun and excitement that can turn any frown upside down.

I bet many of us had that carefree time in our youth where we were oblivious to the world around us just like Gerry when he was younger. Unaware that those fun adventures in the neighborhood pestered someone like Mrs. Morton. Who would have thought after all those years that passed Maggie still remembers everything as if it was yesterday? But an unlikely opportunity will reunite them again after these many years. The question is will Maggie seize this opportunity to turn things around and make Gerry pay? Threatening huh? Nah, how could a helpless old lady do anything like that to a very young, healthy, and strong man like Gerry?

The story is well written, and director Armand Hamouth executed every scene exquisitely with the help of incredibly amazing actors Ray Kennington and Chili Davis, who played the role of Maggie Morton and Gerry Davies respectively. I was pleasantly surprised with how well the story unfolded. It was like watching an old-school comedy set in today’s world. The timing was flawless and the delivery of Gerry’s “mishaps” was superbly funny, so funny that I ended up crying and laughing at the same time. The structure of the story is concrete and I was able to visualize a clear backstory between Maggie and Gerry.

Aside of course from the notable directing of its award-winning director, I can’t help but highlight Ray Kennington’s and Chili Davis’ portrayal. They are so effective in their roles that I felt that they had a history as neighbors. The connection was positively commendable and shows how well these actors commit to their characters. I mostly hear from actors that doing comedy is one of the hardest of all the genres because it might sell to some but not everywhere, however these two artists were outstanding and effortless in every scene. I bet you that you’ll either suddenly burst out laughing or worst drop to the floor in amusement.

Big shout-out to the writer Brian Kennington. Without a great script to work from none of the magic of “Give + Take” would be possible. Brian was able to effectively create an smoth comic narrative within 20 minutes. That’s HUGE! It takes a special talent to can tell a hilarious story that works with a great production team.

I would like to emphasize that this is an award-winning piece, it is very rare to see a comedy with substance and great quality just like this one. This movie is an award-winner in my book for the categories best in screenplay, writer, director, and acting. I am a proud fan of this film. This movie is something I can recommend to my friends and family, a film that everyone can watch together, at some point relate to the characters but above all be entertained and have fun. Great job!
