‘Heart of Africa’ director Tshoper Kabambi to helm ‘PATRICE LUMUMBA’ Bio-Epic

Director Tshoper Kabambi, recognized for his work on ‘Heart of Africa,’ has been selected to direct the upcoming bio-epic, ‘PATRICE LUMUMBA.’ The film focuses on the life of Congolese politician Patrice Lumumba which aims to contribute to the growth of the Democratic Republic of the Congo’s film industry by exclusively employing and training local talent in key positions.

Tshoper Kabambi, the director of the upcoming film, has directed several short films, including Mbote!, winner of international best Francophone film trophy, and two feature films, Heart of Africa and Heart of Africa 2: Companions. The founder of a film production company and an international film festival, he has been a key figure in reviving the film industry in the DR-Congo and in training filmmakers. He lives with his family in Kinshasa, DR-Congo.

“PATRICE LUMUMBA” will depict Lumumba’s life against the backdrop of the Congo Crisis, initiated by a mutiny following the country’s independence in June 1960. Lumumba’s attempt to escape to Stanleyville was thwarted by a coup, leading to his capture and subsequent execution by separatist Katangan authorities, aided by Belgian partisans. Lumumba is recognized as a martyr for the pan-African movement.

Born Isaïe Tasumbu Tawosa on July 2, 1925, Patrice Lumumba served as the first prime minister of the Democratic Republic of the Congo from June to September 1960. Lumumba, an African nationalist and pan-Africanist, played a key role in the country’s transition from a Belgian colony to an independent republic.
