“Intruder” – Shane Morrisun & Travis Hunter
UFF alumni Shane Morrisun and Travis Hunter have teamed up on the short film “Intruder”. Intruder is screening on April 29th at the Town Hub in American Fork Utah as part of the Utah FIlm Festival monthly screenings.
UFF: Looks like the film was shot in one day, talk to me about the process of this film?
Shane: We shot this in about 5 hours. Travis came to me with a script for a short film he wanted to make and I thought it would be a fun, easy thing to do with no budget. So we asked around for someone with a child to play the other roles and Brittney Souther answered the call! She even offered to let us use her home to film, and Chris Souther offered to do the sound and music. A very talented and resourceful couple and we are truly grateful for their assistance on the project.
We arrived on the evening of filming and I went ahead and set up all of the lighting, sound and video equipment while Travis rehearsed with Brittney. We started shooting when it got dark enough. There wasn’t any dialogue written so Travis just did his improv for the character that he created and I gave a few instructions for the camera and for reactions. We finished in a few hours and got right into editing.
UFF: This character seems to share a lot of the anxieties that we saw in the character from trespassers, do you pull from other films that you have done to create new characters, or did both of these characters naturally feel similar in their characteristics?
Travis: I don’t feel like I pull from other things I’ve done. I was just in the moment. I was the ex husband, who was in the new husband’s car, debating on whether or not I would do something terrible.
Shane: We actually filmed this short before Travis filmed Trespassers. So if anything, his character from that film was copying this one! I actually think Travis’ character in this film is the opposite of his character in Trespassers. In Trespassers he played the victim, in this film he plays the reverse role.
UFF: Intruder feels like it could be a much longer production, do you have any plans to expand on the story?
Travis: I’m definitely considering making it longer. This was the first thing I wrote and filmed. Everyone did an amazing job.
Shane: When Travis first approached me with the script I immediately had the Idea to tell the story from all three points of view, revealing a new piece of story and information through each telling kind of like “The Last Duel” by Ridley Scott. We have actually already filmed these parts of the story. The second part is through the eyes of the deaf child and is already finished. The Third is from the point of view of the Mother and it is in post production.
UFF: What other projects do you have coming up?
Travis: I am always releasing new episodes of my Mr. H series on my TikTok and Instagram profiles.
Shane: I have several projects that are in various stages of development and production. I have a couple projects with Travis that are in post and need to be finished and released. Right now I am in the middle of a crowdfunding campaign to fund a short film called Sweet Molly, about a 16 year old girl who grows up in the FLDS religion and is now faced with the prospect of becoming a child bride (visit the website below for more information). I am also in the middle of writing my first feature film screenplay and I am always working with other writers to develop their screenplays as well.
UFF: How can people find out more about you and your projects?
