Jennifer Scott – Eyes Upon Waking
We had the opportunity to interview Jennifer Scott about her film Eyes Upon Waking which is an official selection at the Utah Film Festival. A troubled woman must come to terms with her suicide attempts while spending several days in a holding facility.
What was the inspiration to make Eyes Upon Waking?
Life and a mission to save lives. Truthfully, I had no choice, once I realized others were suffering silently like myself, I just knew I had to get this story told some how.
From idea to completion, how did Eyes Upon Waking change?
It became more realistic. I was reliving what I went through as if it was yesterday. Especially once the actors came into play and my production designers reproduced the set very realistically to the true events.
What was the biggest challenge in getting Eyes Upon Waking made?
Financing and finding the right locations. This film took 12 years to make due to funding. I would raise funds, film, raise funds film…. We would find the right locations and could either not get permissions or they would fall through. I also had to take in consideration of my aging in real life. When we started filming, I was in my late 30’s and we finished in my late 40’s. Thank god I really didn’t age much, that would have been a disaster if the footage did not match.
What do you think is the most important takeaway from your film?
Hope and understanding. Depression = PRESS ON
If you could have a do over with Eyes Upon Waking is there anything that you would do differently? If so, what would that be?
Honestly, I use to think there were but the more I watched it and received positive, heartwarming feedback, the more I feel that it came out exactly how I imagined it.
What do you have next in the works?
I have three feature films I’m trying to raise money for (Family comedy, psychological thriller and true story epic) . Two of which I would like to direct.
