Talking with Shane Morrisun
Biggest projects in last 12 months:
I have worked on several local feature films this past year, such as Permafrost, Riddle of Fire, Rite of the Shaman, Cacuman, and many more, but a couple of the bigger ones were Mistletoe Mixup and Real Housewives of the North Pole. Funny thing, I worked in a different department for each of those films I just listed.
Favorite person on set:
I love all my fellow Utah filmmakers! I guess the ones I like the most are the ones I work with the most. My Free Reign Films family. Shytei Corellian, Ayden Tyler Hatch and J.R. Curtis. I hope to build this family bigger in the coming months and years.
Project that made me a better professional:
I make sure that every single project I work on is a learning experience in some way. I have learned something new on every set I have been on. The biggest learning experiences are a lot of times the failures. So much can be learned through failing.
Script supervising has also been a huge part learning the ins and outs of the set and when to speak up and when not to. And how to work with every department.
Advice…
Don’t wait! Get out there and make things. You have never been in a better position to make things for little to no budget. You have a camera on your phone, start shooting with it. Davinci Resolve is free so you can edit. There will always be excuses why not to do something. Success comes from just committing and figuring it out.
