Jeanne Dukes – The Breakable Shoes

Spread the love

Touching base with former Utah Film Festival alumni, Jeanne Dukes we got to take a look at her newest short screenplay The Breakable Shoes.

“The Breakable Shoes is based on a true story about a Christmas gift my oldest son received when he was a little boy.” said Dukes. “Some other family members are also part of the story. I’m actually the mom!”

The screenplay is about when a nine-year-old boy receives a disappointing present at his school’s Christmas gift exchange, his mother shares the story of his grandmother’s similar girlhood experience, challenging him to find thankfulness and joy in giving from the heart.

The Breakable Shoes is based on a true story that spans four generations and will speak to the child in all of us.

When asking what Dukes plans are with this screenplay she mentioned, “Besides the possibility of making this into a short film, I’ve also considered writing it as an illustrated children’s book.”

Jeanne Dukes has received over 200 film festival honors for her 10 screenplays and 2 short concept films.

As a resident of Texas, Utah is a bit of a commute to make it to the monthly events the Utah Film Festival produces but the distance has not decreased the amount of love she has for the festival. “Utah is one of my favorite festivals because you guys put so much heart into what you do.” said Dukes. “I will definitely always keep you up-to-date on any big happenings.”

Jeanne Dukes short screenplay is part of the December table read at the Utah Film Festival on December 2nd. Audience members are chosen to read for the parts live during the in-person event at the Towne Hub. Tickets are available at https://2023uff.eventive.org/schedule
