The Night I Proposed
When one is ready to propose, we hope that that the event goes off just as planned. Such is the case when Jerry plans to propose to Helen in the short screenplay The Night I Proposed by Robert Salisbury.
Jerry is a clumsy, goofy character with a good heart and an incredibly romantic plan to propose to Helen. Through a series of events it feels like things just keep getting in the way of the proposal, but Jerry is set he will ask Helen tonight come hell or high water…. and he kinda gets both.
This short film is one part 1950’s goofy romance and one part action filled creature feature. I loved the detail Robert Salisbury used to describe each setting from the doorstep, to the car, to the boat, the monster, and ultimately the drifting in the water. The attention to detail helped me easily visualize all these elements. You could even hear the soundtrack to the film through the screenplay.
The Night I Proposed by Robert Salisbury is a light hearted short screenplay that will make you smile, gasp and smile again. I think a short film like this could be produced “as-is” and added to an anthology of short films similar to what is on Netflix series “Love, Death + Robots”. Well done!
