The Remaining Eight
What would you do if you could live several times in a lifetime? Will you spend it wisely as a safety net for accidents and uncontrollable circumstances of life? Like a video console game feature brought to reality, where you can keep track of living and dying, a pretty awesome world, right? But would it still be an awesome life if people just kill you out of a shallow reason or out of nothing at all? After all, you have plenty of lives to spend? But how will you secure your remaining lives if you don’t know someone has killed you several times without your knowledge? This might seem exciting, but nonetheless, paranoia and trust issues will surely boil up to the ceiling if you ask me. How would you like to experience what life is like under these circumstances, would you take the chance? Lucky you, my dearest readers, our highlight film today will give you a glimpse of how’s it like to live counting how many lives you’ve got left if you die today in the remarkably impressive, and one of a kind short film “The Remaining Eight/ A Maradék Nyolc” by Mór Kőműves.
I have to tell you right away folks, I had a great time watching this brilliant film. The story is so juicy. It ignited crazy thoughts about life and death on my head, but don’t get me wrong. It is more about wanting to experience life to the fullest without the fear of losing your one precious life. This masterpiece by director Mór Kőműves, who is also the creator of the intriguing story, is set in the lovely country of Hungary. It circles the life of a couple named, Dániel and Daniella. Living together for ten years they live up with each other’s differences along with the struggles of the cost of living. Dániel, a has-been model who now manages a small cafe, is still trying to cope with the loss of his career. While Daniella, who owns a fashion boutique despises the way they had been living. Until one day, on their tenth year of being together, Dániel found out something that would change the rest of their lives together for good. Unravel the truth behind Dániel’s remaining eight as soon as this film hits theaters near you, and I guarantee you, it is worth the watch.
To wrap up this review, I am giving this film two thumbs up for originality and ingenuity of its story. Another added factor is its fine cinematic qualities and the impressive performances of the cast, particularly our lead actors Gergely Csizmadia (Dániel) and Zsuzsanna Ripli (Daniella). The tension between this two literally kills it. If they were a real couple I wouldn’t even wonder why Dániel on has eight remaining. Both have live up to their parts and made their performance superbly convincing. Lastly, applauses to director Mór Kőműves for making such an outstanding story, and exerting all elements of expert skills to deliver it in the best possible depiction it deserves. Super well done, Gratulálunk!
