The Superstar
We are all stars in our own ways. There are some of us who are headed to that destination, there are some who already found their spot in the sky and shining with the other stars, but there were some who are distant and are unable to glow to their full potential. Today’s featured film reminded me of us being stars in the sky, no matter what profession or goal, we are connected to each other, and that connection helps us shine brighter. The title of our featured film is “The Superstar” by director/writer Rajiv Ratan Reddy. This short film surprised me in many ways. I was very impressed with the plot and the structuring of the story, but that is not all. This story that I am about to share with you will strike through to your heart and will make you reflect on the small ways we can share goodness to other people, especially those dear to our hearts.
Rajiv Ratan Reddy, a local talent from Salt Lake City, Utah, showcased his talent in writing and directing for the first time in this film. And he sure aced his debut as a filmmaker because his short film “The Superstar” is impressively good. From the structuring of the story, to the climax, and plot twist made me doubt if this was his first time in filmmaking. The execution of the scenes and how he was able to capture genuine emotions from it, especially the tearjerking ones, is indeed a natural talent. In this short film, he exhibits a story of friendship, of brotherly love, and compassion. A lovely tale between two people that developed a true bond of friendship and represents unconditional love. This short is not a romance movie, but a depiction of real love, that is why I am very fascinated that he was able to produce a story that can speak to the hearts of many. A relate-able storyline of friendship, which expresses the kind of love we exert to our family, our friends, and those closest to our hearts, by blood or not.
“The Superstar” highlights the life of a famous actor. Well-loved by fans, always booked for acting jobs, and already established as award-winning in the field of acting, in other words, a superstar. He shares this journey with his trusted driver/bodyguard of ten years. In every set location, movie premiers, or award ceremonies these two are inseparable. Until one day, a piece of unpleasant news broke and tested their friendship and support for each other. It may seem like an ordinary story of friendship, but Rajiv Ratan Reddy delivered it in a remarkably extraordinary way. The technique that he used is impacting and creative. And of course, with the help of the excellent acting of his two lead actors Anthony Lovato and Ben Burnett, this film is undeniably a commanding choice in the short drama division. So if you are looking for some good drama with a little tearjerker and that has a feel-good vibe, Rajiv Ratan Reddy’s The Superstar is at the top of my list, you wouldn’t go wrong with this standout!
