Unexpected Guest

The Unexpected Guest is a really awesome horror short film about a delusional man who will go unimaginable lengths when he doesn’t get his way. He has a very twisted mind that he thinks he is a god and that he is the only one who is aware of the real world.

The setting of the film is on a secluded place in the woods. The place seems quiet and peaceful. It also seemed cold and creepy- a perfect place to hide anything that needs to be hidden.

In the film’s introduction, a woman who is suffering from amnesia gets injured. She thinks the man who took her in is helping her. She even trusted him that he would help her gain back her memories. This scene is amazingly crafted in a way that will let a viewer doubt the intentions of the man. Most probably, your initial reaction will be that the man was the one who caused the woman’s amnesia and leg injury. However, because of the lead actor’s cunning personality, you would now give him the benefit of the doubt. Like, what if he is a good man who is living a solitary life in the woods because he doesn’t have money to own properties in the city? Or, what if he is living alone because he’s depressed when his wife died? You will be torn between hating him and having pity on him. Honestly, the performance of the lead characters are to be commended as they were able to portray such astonishing roles and deliver such good dialogues.

The overall cinematography was great. The beginning scenes are absorbing and are able to catch the viewers’ attention. The middle scenes could easily keep that attention. An easy favorite would be the scene where the man was disgustingly saying his monologue of how he thinks that he is deserving of revere while the woman is drugged and paralyzed. The female lead was so amazing with how she portrayed that scene. There was so much emotions in her acting even if she was drugged and paralyzed in that scene. Also, the ending is a really clever one for a horror film. It’s really difficult to be in the wrong place at the wrong time. (Sigh..)

The effects used in the movie are perfectly harmonized with its entire theme. It was great in giving off that dark and scary vibes in the film backed by the awesome musical score. Be prepared to say a lot of “oh no” or “oh my gosh”!

Even if the storyline is easy to follow, the creators of this movie were still able to give us a fresh take on a horror genre. The plot is suspenseful while the twist is fascinating. Unlike most horror films that rely on a cliff-hanger to maintain suspense, this film was smart enough to reveal everything without losing the interest of the audience.

It is safe to say that this film is an award-worthy one. The director and the writer had done a really great job! The cast gave us an amazing performance! And the rest of the production team clearly gave us their best!
