Landen Erickson – Perfect-Fit

Spread the love

We had the opportunity to interview Landen Erickson, the filmmaker behind Perfect-Fit. Perfect-Fit is an official selection of the 12th annual Utah Film Festival.

In Perfect-Fit, a young couple, just out of the honeymoon phase struggles to find ways of reconnecting their love once again one puzzle piece at a time.

What was the inspiration to make Perfect-Fit?

This was a senior graduation capstone project with Utah Valley University for a lot of us that worked on it, writer James Cox presented me with this script, and I instantly connected to the same communication struggles with my marriage.

From idea to completion, how did this production change?

The script was written around the song Daughters of Eve – Hey Lover and we wanted to use that as our ending title song but when we didn’t get the rights to the song, so we had to change it.

What was the biggest challenge in getting Perfect-Fit made?

One aspect that was more challenging than what you might expect was raising the money to help fund our Talent. We did get lucky being able to use a lot of the schools equipment we still needed to rent equipment. Also when we did a lot of the preproduction and production it was during the height of the pandemic in 2020 and 2021.

What do you think is the most important takeaway from your film?

Communicating your wants and needs with your partner and being open and honest with each other.

If you could have a do over with Perfect-Fit is there anything that you would do differently? If so, what would that be?

More time, we rushed everything in two days and had the camera go out on the first day causing us to lose a half day of shooting.

What do you have next in the works?

I am currently working on a couple of shorts including a dystopian future around the Great Salt Lake drying up and I’m working on my first animation short.
