Breaking Romance Stereotypes: ‘Thursday’s Secret’

Spread the love

“Thursday’s Secret” is a tale of love and friendship.  The screenplay, penned by Louis Boakye, weaves a narrative that challenges the conventional notions of romance, exploring the intricate dynamics of relationships.

Boakye shared insights into the origins of the story. “The inspiration for the screenplay originated while listening to love songs. I’ve always been fascinated by the unconventional ways people seem to fall in love,” he revealed. Boakye aimed to create a narrative that deviates from typical romantic tales, delving into the possibility of people gradually connecting on a deeper level without initially knowing each other.

Refining the screenplay involved a meticulous process, with Boakye going through approximately 30 drafts to shape the narrative. He emphasized the evolution of each main character, highlighting their individual journeys and the voids they aim to fill or reclaim. “It’s not merely about obtaining their desires; rather, it delves into the transformative impact the journey has on them,” Boakye explained.

Crafting a coherent story structure proved to be a challenge for Boakye, but he shared valuable insights into the process. Breaking the story into acts with clear goals and obstacles, focusing on character development, and considering the characters’ personalities and motivations were crucial steps. Boakye also stressed the importance of collaboration, noting the invaluable input from writers like Jenica Anusua, Stewart Bounds, and Rylee Jensen in enhancing the story and character growth.

The collaborative process not only contributed to the creative aspects of the story but also fostered a deeper understanding among the team. Boakye expressed his appreciation for the synergy among the writers, describing it as a shared learning experience that enriched the overall development of the narrative and characters.

For filmmakers interested in optioning the screenplay or collaborating on new projects, Boakye provided avenues to connect. “Connect with us on Instagram at @louissarbeng or salt.pepperstudioss@gmail.com to stay updated on our latest projects,” he encouraged. Boakye expressed a passion for crafting impactful stories, ranging from heartwarming love tales to transformative narratives, and welcomed unique concepts to be shared with them at Salt Pepper Studios.

“Thursday’s Secret” is an official selection in the Utah International Film Festival taking place February 12-17.
