We had the opportunity to interview the very talented Chozy Aiyub, the filmmaker and entire cast of the film Conflict. Conflict is an official selection in the 12th annual Utah Film Festival.

Conflict is about Mohammad Abdullah, a Palestinian prisoner who is being interrogated by Moshe Levi, an Israeli soldier. They both exchange their own point of views in a heated conversation which eventually creates an unpredictable outcome.

What was the inspiration to make Conflict?

As a Palestinian, I wanted to share a story about how different and similar people can be. I wanted to share the narrative that most people are unaware of, then used my imagination in a way of saying WHAT IF.

From idea to completion, how did Conflict change?

When I wrote this piece, I knew I’ll be playing the role of Mohammad, but wanted to cast an Israel actor to play the role or Moshe but wasn’t able to find anyone. So I woke up one night and came up with the idea of me playing both characters and the rest is history.

What was the biggest challenge in getting Conflict made?

Making sure I’m truthful about both characters and being able to match them in post production with angles and having the doubles and stand ins help me because without them there wouldn’t be a film. Shoutout to Matt Roszak and John Cola.

What do you think is the most important takeaway from your film?

We are all humans and all it takes is a conversation to understand one another. Everybody suffers and peace is the key.

If you could have a do over with Conflict is there anything that you would have done differently? If so, what would you change?

I would have got more involved with the camera shots and angles to make it more cinematic and visual.

What do you have in the works?

Just finished filming my short comedy titled GANJA HUMMUS. Can’t wait to share it with the world. Also currently writing my next short drama titled THE COLONIZER. Stay tuned.
