Andrea Aviet & Linzy Attenborough – Don’t Cry

Spread the love

We had the opportunity to talk to Andrea Aviet and Linzy Attenborough, the creative forces behind Don’t Cry. Don’t Cry is an official selection in the 12th annual Utah Film Festival.

What was the inspiration to make Don’t Cry?

The story is based upon my book White Sorrow, my real life experience of abuse and survival. It goes on to show my escape for the love of my children and rise against adversity, oppression so that I could be living proof and an example for them. Dream, achieve your dreams, live free and let the white flag of our personal victory story fly up high. My actions have inspired many across the globe so I thought why not try and depict it in a short film spreading the message of upliftment and courage, hope and a better tomorrow for everyone who is going through abuse and feels lost. x

From idea to completion, how did Don’t Cry change?

I have a clear understanding of what I want and so there was very little change like we changed the beginning scene to slot in at a later stage. Overall there was not much change.

What was the biggest challenge in getting Don’t Cry made?

The biggest challenge was getting a crew together who would believe in my ability to play my own traumatic past. When you’re new to the industry no one wants to give you a chance. People assume and  think you can’t do it. I am here  as living proof, it can be done. After being introduced to Linzy who came on board as a director for my film and introduced me to the rest of the team, we sat down together, wrote a script, chose a date and off we went to shoot.

What do you think is the most important takeaway from Don’t Cry?

The most important takeaway would be ‘love yourself and believe you can accomplish all things you put your mind too.

This is something I started practicing from the time I was in an abusive marriage. The strength and mental transformation it brings about is powerful. You can accomplish the impossible once you completely start to do this. It is this positive mindset along with the love for my children which helped me to get out of an abusive marriage and become the person I am today.

If you could have a do over with Don’t Cry, is there anything that you would do differently? If so, what would that be?

I would not change anything, very happy with the outcome.

What do you have next in the works?

At the moment I am setting up a production company to help inspire new film producers, actors, filmmakers and game changers.Along with working on a 20 minute short this time. It’s a new short and I’m very excited about it.

How can we learn more about you and your projects?
