Emotional Resonance of “The Saddest Words”

In the quiet beauty of Echo Reservoir in Utah independent artist Kylanne immersed herself in the creation of her latest music video, “The Saddest Words.” The song is a poignant exploration of her personal struggles with mental health. She sought to convey the isolating nature of such challenges and spark crucial conversations about mental health and suicidal ideation.

The genesis of the story can be traced back to Kylanne’s desire to channel vulnerability into art. “The Saddest Words” was not just a song; it was a plea for understanding and empathy. Kylanne expressed, “My hope in creating the song and video production was to inspire important conversations about mental health and suicidal ideation and hopefully spark a stronger desire for all of us to recognize cries for help from those around us.”

The video’s backdrop, the serene Echo Reservoir, set the stage for a visually captivating production. Initially intending to capture the reservoir’s beauty from the shore, Kylanne found herself drawn to a more immersive experience. “We filmed very early in the morning, and the water was absolutely freezing, but it was just a blast to film,” she shared. The serenity of the setting intertwined with the chaotic progression of Kylanne’s immersion into the cold waters, mirroring the emotional journey depicted in the song.

For an independent artist like Kylanne, creating art often comes with the challenges. “Being an independent artist, it can be difficult to create art with such a limited budget and crew. This video, in particular, was just filmed by me and my one videographer on a very small budget.” Despite these constraints, Kylanne embraced creativity and resourcefulness, ultimately achieving a production she is proud of.

“Don’t wait until you have everything ‘perfect’ or all the right resources before you start,” Kylanne advised. “When I just go for it, I learn so much in the process, connect with amazing people, and gain so much joy in the process of creating.”

As “The Saddest Words” continues to resonate with audiences, Kylanne invites them to explore more of her work and future projects.
