Spread the love

Celebrations wouldn’t be complete without lovely decorations, particularly the fun and lovable balloons. Who doesn’t enjoy balloons? Aside from the cake and the celebrant of course, I always look forward to the balloon decorations. Kids, elderly, and kids at heart enjoy having this as part of the celebration. May it be, in printed characters, formed into different kinds of figures, with special messages or themed colors, it makes the occasion more joyous and festive. It brightens up the event and gives an energy of happiness and appreciation both for the celebrants and the guests. But have you ever wondered what it takes to run a business that has a mission to send love and happiness? Where do they get the inspiration and the commitment to always measure up to the kind of happiness that their clients are expecting on that special occasion? Well, I found the answer to that when I discovered the documentary “My Sister” by Julio Mendez.

“Success has nothing to do with luck. It’s a matter of consistency.” Says sisters Genesis and Iravid Nieves, as they make their way to prove to the world that resiliency, perseverance, hard work, and creativity are the perfect formula for the success of their family balloon business, ‘Decoraciones Globos by Nieves’. From life challenges in Caracas, and now slowly but surely conquering the balloon business as they journey to Miami, Florida, the Nieves sisters aren’t done yet in making people happy and celebrations extra special with their wonderful balloon creations.

“My Sister” is a six-minute-long documentary. It is short but very much concise. There was not a second wasted on this film. It is packed with a story worth telling and values worth sharing. Watching this made me realize how much life has to offer if we shift our perspective on a positive note, just like what the Nieves sisters did. Life hasn’t been on the good side for them as they were growing up. Difficulties of different kinds continued to test their limits until they discovered the art and charm of the balloon business. These two sisters, together with their family share their passion and dedication to making their business a success. What I like about their story is how they looked back at their difficulties in the past as motivation to keep striving and help others to conquer with the same mindset and drive to reach their goal. They are a true inspiration, especially in these changing times.

I highly recommend this mini-documentary of Julio Mendez. He not only showcased a beautiful story, but he was able to translate the heart of the story by capturing authentic scenes from the sisters as they look back from their life and head forward for more success.  I was able to see the magic that happens whenever they deliver their craft to their clients. The transformation of the energy of the surroundings, the bliss and the appreciation from the faces of their clients, and of course, the sincerity and happiness from the Nieves sisters and their family as they deliver joy to every special event. This short film is a must-see documentary. It will paint a smile on your face and send joy and hope to your heart the way it did to mine.
