No Daddy Daughter Dance

Spread the love
A daughter always has that special spot in her father’s heart, and in today’s focus short film, we’ll dive in on a lovely story that will undoubtedly touch the heart of many father and daddy’s girls, just like me.

Kody Newton and Jared Stull showcase a meaningful and beautiful story of a father and a daughter, who like many of us, encounters a tough patch in their journey together in life. “No Daddy Daughter Dance” is about Jason and his daughter Grace (played by real-life father-daughter duo Kody and Tylin Newton), who are anticipating a father and daughter dance event by nightfall. However, they encountered an unexpected scenario hours before the dance. A day of what Jason thought to be full of relaxation for his broken leg turned into an excruciating adrenaline rush when a fire broke into their house. Struggling to locate and extinguish the fire, Jason remembered that he was with his daughter Grace. Suffocating from the smoke of the fire, the limping Jason struggles to find his daughter Grace. He searched every corner of their house, but Grace is nowhere to found. With fears that Grace may be trapped and scared somewhere in their house, all that Jason could do is shout for her name and hope she already made it out of their house. Things got a little more interesting when they found out that young Grace is not home during the fire, but was safe and sound playing in a friend’s house and forgot to tell her father. The tired and exhausted Jason was conflicted with what happened. Finally knowing that Grace is safe is a great thing. However, he felt disappointed that he didn’t know where Grace was and is even more hurt that she didn’t even bother telling him.

Disappointments and emotions fuel, Jason decided to teach his daughter a lesson about taking responsibility for her actions. So, he told her that there is no Daddy Daughter Dance for them, which left Grace heartbroken. Contemplating on what happened, Grace realized the gravity of their situation and decided to make it up to her father and let him know how sorry she is. Will Jason forgive his daughter? Can they still make it to Daddy Daughter Dance? One thing’s for sure, the love and bond between this father and daughter are pure and wonderful, something that you wouldn’t want to miss out on seeing.

This film reminded me of the significance of communication between us parents and our children, on how we make them understand why we are imposing the importance of asking permission, guidelines with what they do, and following simple house rules. That discipline is not our way of controlling their lives or limiting them with what they want to do, but as an approach in guiding them to think through with their actions. And to make them realize that every action that they make, more often than not, comes with responsibility. Most especially in these changing times. Where many of us are often challenged by distractions in our lives. This lovely short film is a family movie I’d definitely recommend in a heartbeat. It is a story that can get through to parents and kids. Plus, the natural bond and performance of Kody and Tylin Newton added undeniable sincerity to the film’s message and values. Technicality and production-wise, with a limited budget, was superb. I enjoyed watching every second of it. Great work to Directors Jared Stull and Kody Newton! Hoping to see more from these amazing directors.
